The Ben Brown remix of Derek Howell – A Bit Less This Time is out today on Polytechnic Records.  The original track is a great progressive house tune crafted by Derek, who is putting out a slew of  some great original music lately. Very happy to work with Derek & Polytechnic on this one.

Ibiza Trance House 2009 will be distributed exclusively in Germany, Austria, and other select countries throughout Europe.

Last year’s Ibiza Trance House 2008 also featured two of my productions: Ben Brown – Calm Down (Jerome Isma-Ae Remix) and Row – Colossus (Ben Brown Remix),  which are both currently available on iTunes and at Beatport. Other artist on the double disc included Armin Van Buuren, Deadmau5, Adam K & Soha, and two tracks by my boy Christopher Manik. 2008′s CD is currently available as an import… check it out on amazon.de … better brush up on your Deutsch.

Ad Brown vs. Ben Brown

Just a quick note: Ben Brown – “Hope” is not my track. Tiesto played a track on Club Life a month or so ago claiming it as Ben Brown “Hope”.  This one is actually by Ad Brown (no relation), and is coming out on Black Hole.  The track is actually pretty good so kudos to Ad on some solid work!

HiDef 001 Mixed by Ben Brown

This past fall, Seneca Giese at Audio Logic Recordings invited me to be involved with the first in a new mix compilation series. The title of the series  stems from the series of parties we had done here in Chicago by the same name, and this first installment is an extension of those events in addition to being an expression of my personal taste in electronic dance music material.

This piece was done entirely in Ableton Live, with each track being highly edited and remixed to fit more cohesively in the entire mix. Features of each of these individual tracks appear throughout the mix.. some are obvious, some are hidden a little deeper.

The process wasn’t like a normal DJ mix; it was a much more ‘produced’ and premeditated concept. I chose the tracks that went well together before considering the flow of the mix in its entirety.  For example, the first transition completed was the last in the final mix;  the great Ricardo Tobar remix of Fairmont’s “I Need Medicine”  layered, looped, and edited over the entirety of Jamie McHugh’s beatless electronica track, “Stammer”.  Each of these ‘track-to-track’ transitions were done independently. Eventually I had good amount of larger chunks consisting of 2 or 3 tracks that were then combined into the sections which then formed the entire mix.

Moonbeam and Funky Bastard Remixes

Tyler Michaud and the New School Recordings crew approached me about a remix for the Moonbeam track in the early fall of ’08 but I had to pass on it initially. I had the samples and realized after a few weeks that the melodies and atmosphere in the track were perfect for an opening track. We got it approved for the mix and I worked it into the intro track. Turned out to be a nice chill/melancholic opener for the CD.

I wanted to include the original mix of TFB’s Koalas For Breakfast but just couldn’t find a way to do it justice in the mix, as it’s such a good piece of organic guitarness on it own. I knew I wanted to remix the track when I heard it and worked it into a bit more of a summery tune with more dancefloor energy for later in the mix.

Ben Brown Remix

Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Ben Brown Remix)

Kanye West released remix parts for Love Lockdown in Fall 0f 2008. I picked up the remix stems up and came up with this little jam. I’d say its a groovey prog houser, but genres lines can be tricky.. definitely a little more mainstream appeal than most of my other work.

Ben Brown - Chinstroke/151 EP

Here’s some info about “151″, a new Ben Brown track on Audio Logic.

151 is a pretty straightforward progressive house banger with the production more focused on fx work and sequencing… It builds pretty well and has some great energy for use more during peak time sets. This one has recieved some support from Tiesto on his Club Life radio show in the spring of 2007 (forget which episodes). I also included this track on my “15 Minutes of Fame” guest mix on Tiesto’s Club Life show that appeared on another Club Life episode around the same time. I’ve been waiting to put out this track for a little over a year, so its nice to have it finally hitting the shelves.

151 is a progressive gem that sets the mood immediately and keeps the listener locked in. Here’s some info the new Ben Brown track, titled “Chinstroke”. The track is out on March 10, 2009 on Audio Logic Recordings. Some people have asked where I got the name for this one… a good friend of mine and fellow dj/producer use the term to describe people that go out to clubs and stroke their chins, analyzing and critiquing music instead of enjoying it and having a good time. I’ll admit though I’m guilty of being “chinstroker” occassionally… it comes with the territory.
